Juliet's thoughts
It seems as though I have gone through the day in a daze. My nurse told me that quite the skirmish broke out in the streets today. Some of the Montague's servants provoking some of ours again, no doubt. Ugh! I wasn't permitted to know who was involved, but I hope my cousin Tybalt wasn't there making a fool of himself. He has such a temper! At any rate, that wasn't the worst of the day. Today my mother told me Paris has asked to marry me! Marry! I'm but thirteen summers old! The thought of marriage has never crossed my mind, but I suppose I'm not opposed to it. I only wish it doesn't have to be while I'm still so young. Mother says Paris is very handsome and rich, but I want a man who will love me. Will Paris? I must stop worrying! And now I must go make myself pretty for Father's party tonight. Mother and my nurse have hinted that Paris will be here, so I must present myself at my best.
